In Between Seasons
Is it hot or cold?
Two new styles for the in-between season.
“Is it hot or cold?” The stretch between summer and fall came up again and again during the LIVE. This time, we introduced two new styles you can start wearing right away.
From our popular Selected Line, the Herringbone Knit Tops. And the Drape Shirt Dress, the first piece in SERPENTINA’s fall/winter collection. We tried them on, moved around, and put them to the test during Instagram LIVE. Here’s what we found.
- Motosuzuki
- 161cm / Bust H75 / Straight body type
- Tamao
- 166cm

The Neckline
A high neck that
doesn’t look constricting.
High necks can make your neck look shorter, so they’re often a shape people with a straight body type avoid. This knit has a clean, streamlined neckline, and even Motosuzuki, who usually shies away from high necks, said during the LIVE, “I can wear this one.”
The refined, modest neckline keeps its polished look even when layered under a jacket.

The Armhole
A sleeveless style that
doesn’t reveal too much.
With sleeveless tops, the underarm can be a concern—especially when reaching up to hold a train strap. The armhole ends at a point that doesn’t overlap with a high-cut bra, so your bra is less likely to show when you raise your arms, and underarm bulges stay hidden.
The shoulder width covers about half of the deltoid. Even a little coverage at the top of the arm makes the shoulders look more delicate. The armhole doesn’t pull, and the design feels comfortable even when you move your arms.

The Knit
A medium-weight yarn creates
a knit that isn’t flimsy.
Fine-yarn knits can cling to the back and emphasize every fold. This knit is made with a medium-weight yarn, giving it a pleasantly substantial feel. It stretches well without clinging to your body’s lines.
During the LIVE, we stretched the fabric and found that you couldn’t see through it. Even the texture of the lace camisole underneath didn’t show. It’s thick enough to help prevent the “stretched across the bust and turned see-through” issue that can happen for fuller-busted wearers.
For layering, we recommend a smooth T-shirt bra or a beige underlayer. Lingerie with lots of lace may show through a little.
From the Instagram LIVE
“This is the kind of piece
to wear right now.”
Unlike short-sleeved mohair knits that make you wonder, “When am I supposed to wear this?”, this is just right for the transition from summer to fall. The calendar says it’s already fall. Try adding just a touch of autumn to your everyday look.

Five Colors
How to choose from five colors.
- GrayA heathered gray knit. Of the five colors, the herringbone pattern stands out the most.
- IvoryA soft, light shade. Choose a beige underlayer rather than black. Black may show through, but its texture won’t.
- BrownChoose this color to add a touch of fall. Motosuzuki, who usually finds brown hard to wear, found this shade flattering; it should be easy for cool undertones to try, too.
- Dark GrayA great alternative when you’re tired of black. It also keeps your outfit from looking all black when you’re wearing black bottoms.
- BlackBlack can feel monotonous in a solid fabric, but a pattern makes it more fun to wear. Especially for anyone who always reaches for black.

How to Wear
Tucked in or worn loose.
For workdays and weekends.
Tucking it into a skirt makes your waist look higher. Motosuzuki paired it with a high-waisted skirt for a streamlined look around the stomach, while Tamao styled the ivory top with striped pants for a polished finish.
Layer it under a jacket for work, or pair it with a tulle or A-line skirt for the weekend. A statement necklace or a favorite pendant looks great at the neckline, too. Wear it on its own during the day, then layer on a jacket when the evening turns cool.

Front Zip
Unzip from neckline to hem.
A zipper runs down the inside of the front placket, all the way to the hem. It’s concealed by a flap, so it won’t show when closed. Since you can put it on without pulling it over your head, changing after doing your hair and makeup is easy.
It’s also a thoughtful choice for nursing or expecting mothers, anyone who finds it hard to raise their shoulders, and those with limited arm movement after surgery. During the LIVE, we also mentioned how easy it is to open the front for a hospital checkup. It’s a reassuring piece for getting ready on the day of your child’s school event, too.

Easy Care
Looks like wool,
washes in the machine.
This functional polyester fabric has the polished look of wool. It’s machine washable and wrinkle-resistant, so after hanging it to dry, you can wear it again the next day with little to no ironing. It’s also made with anti-pilling fabric.
Compared with a short-sleeved shirt dress, it has more texture and a distinctly fall/winter feel. The medium-weight fabric has just the right amount of thickness, so it won’t feel too warm on a lingering-summer day.

Collar & Cuffs
A button at the neckline
and foldable three-quarter sleeves.
There’s one button at the very top of the neckline. The neck has plenty of room, so it doesn’t look constricting when buttoned all the way up; leave it open for a more relaxed look. The substantial fabric helps the collar hold its shape when popped, making it a good choice for days you want to cover your neckline or wear your hair up. The buttonhole isn’t too small, so even Tamao, who has long nails, found it easy to fasten.
The three-quarter sleeves have long cuffs with accent buttons. Fold them back for a breezy look, or leave them down for a more autumnal feel. The sleeves taper toward the wrists, creating a soft shape around the arms and a streamlined look at the wrists.

Pockets
Roomy side pockets fit
a 600ml bottle.
The pockets on both sides are large enough to hold a 600ml bottle. During the LIVE, we fit two bottles in one pocket, and even a 720ml bottle. The wide openings make it easy to take out a planner, maternal and child health handbook, or parasol. The pocket bags are made from a non-stretch fabric.
Designed to blend in with the drape, the pockets add a soft detail when viewed from the side. If you’d rather not have your belongings stand out, we recommend choosing a roomier size or black.
The left chest pocket is functional, too—it fits a smartphone. You can also clip on a name badge without putting a hole in your clothes.

The Back
Elastic and pleats at the back,
with a vent at the hem.
The elastic and pleats at the back provide plenty of stretch, making the dress comfortable during pregnancy, too. The draping below the waist naturally conceals the lower stomach and hips.
The back vent has a deep overlap, so it doesn’t reveal too much leg as you walk. Combined with the stretch fabric, it makes for easy movement—even when taking long strides.
Size Talk
Trying on both sizes.
Two people with different heights and body types tried on both S-M and L-LL.
Motosuzuki161cm / Bust H75 / Straight body type
There’s room at both the bust and waist, and Motosuzuki said this size is more comfortable to move in. It’s also less noticeable when you carry things in the pockets.
Creates a body-conscious look that follows your shape. It isn’t restrictive, and the front zipper prevents any gaping at the bust. The underwear line didn’t show, and the drape stayed in place.
Tamao166cm
A just-right fit at the bust. The length is on the longer side, with the hem starting at the narrowest part of the calf, making the legs look streamlined.
More room at the bust and waist, with the hem falling just above the ankles. A great choice if you like a longer length.
For a looser fit, choose L-LL,
and for a closer fit, choose S-M.
| Size | Length | Bust | Waist | Hips |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| S-M | 118 | 106 | 61-96 | 96 |
| L-LL | 120 | 120 | 75-110 | 110 |
Units: cm. Bust, waist, and hips are circumferences; length is measured flat.
Desk to Dinner
For work,
and for after.
Keep it fastened up to the neck during work to hide the triple-strand pearl necklace. Unbutton it before dinner to reveal the pearls for a more glamorous look. This is one of the unique ways to enjoy this dress that we showcased on LIVE.
Light gray gives a bright, calm impression, making it suitable for family gatherings or school events. Adding a slim belt to the black version gives it a sharper look, and red accents stand out beautifully. Peeking out a lace inner layer from the neckline is also lovely.
Live Q&A
Based on questions received during LIVE.
Does it generate static electricity easily?
The fabric has a soft, smooth texture and contains no wool. During LIVE, we put it on and took it off over a thin dress, but it didn't make any crackling sounds. How it feels varies from person to person.
Can I layer a peplum jacket over it?
It is designed with enough room to layer a jacket over it. As long as the sleeves are left down without being folded back, it should not feel bulky inside. SERPENTINA clothes are designed with layering jackets over them in mind for work.
What outerwear should I pair it with?
The length is easy to pair with both short and long outerwear. During LIVE, we layered it with a black coat and showcased an all-black outfit.
Will items in the pockets stand out?
When you put items in a size that fits close to the body, they may stand out. For those who want to avoid this, we recommend a looser size or black.
